Save the Rhino Trust's World Rhino Day was a huge success!

25 September 2012

Kids from three schools took to the streets of Swakopmund, wearing masks and carrying posters and, in just over two hours, raised close on to N$6000! As a reward, the kids were given a rhino postcard and a free visit to the snake park. Three SRT trackers and the camel team staff were also in town and it was publicised that people could talk to them about rhinos and what their work entails-- raising immeasurable awareness for SRT and the rhino that they protect.

The day was full of wonderful stories about kids using entrepreneurial skills to help raise money for Namibia's rhino. One grade three girl stated "I know why we must collect money for the rhinos-- it's because Rhinos belong to the future".

The evening function at Desert Explorers was really well attended and everyone enjoyed a great presentation given by SRT senior staff,  Simson and Jeff, followed by a Silent Auction that raised an additional N$10 000. It was a fun, relaxed, informal evening with people who really care about rhinos.

At the end of the day, SRT's World Rhino Day events raised N$20 000! There is still more to come as they have been promised further individual donations as well as a raffle and coin collection to be held at Namib Primary school.

It was a hugely successful SRT event that raised immeasurable awareness on World Rhino Day as well as some significant funding for the project. Congratulations!
