Come and join us for Tusk’s unique Safaricom Marathon!
Renowned as one of the world’s top ten marathons, this event offers you the unforgettable experience of running through Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, alongside some of Africa’s most amazing wildlife.
The heavily protected 61,000 acre conservancy is home to rhino, elephant, big cats and a vast assortment of plains wildlife including giraffe, the rare Grevy’s zebra and much more.
Setting the Safaricom Marathon apart from other events is the significant impact it has on local communities — providing support to community development, education, healthcare and wildlife conservation initiatives right across Kenya.
You will also get the chance to witness firsthand how your fundraising makes a real difference –from wildlife protection to local schools, conservation centres and water projects.
The Safaricom Marathon was first held at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in 2000 with 150 participants. In 2017 the event attracted 1,400 runners and raised more than £400,000 for projects across Kenya.
The course is set on dirt roads over an undulating 13-mile course through some of East Africa’s most beautiful scenery, across savannah plains, along river banks and through acacia woodland before finishing close to Lewa’s headquarters.
The race begins in the cool of the early morning. The altitude adds to the challenge (Lewa is at 5,550ft above sea level). The full marathon is two laps of the same course.
Entry fee: £200 pp (£50 for the 5km Kids’ Race).
Fundraising target: £1,500 sponsorship, with many runners going on to raise considerably more.
